Holidays in Paxos - things to do on Paxos
Swimming
Nearly all the beaches on Paxos are a mixture of stone, shingle
and pebble, but all are safe for swimming and the water is wonderfully
clear and blue. It is essential to wear something on your feet while on
the beach jelly shoes, flip
flops, espadrilles etc. There is a man-made sandy beach at Mogonisi at
the south of the island and the beaches in Lakka Bay have an unusual feature
in that the shingle and pebble gives way to flat, golden sand as soon
as you enter the water. This makes Lakka's beaches very popular with families
and children.
Water sports
Lakka has a water sports club on the beach where windsurfers, topper sailing boats, pedaloes etc can be rented by the hour or the day. Water skiing can also be arranged locally.
Snorkelling and diving
Snorkelling is very popular all round the island, because of the clarity of the water and the rocky coastline, and equipment can be bought in local shops. There is a diving operation based in Lakka and run by trained personnel offering the latest equipment. They offer open-water dives, courses and a full range of tuition (minimum age 8 years). Contact us for more details.
Getting around
Our offices offer car, jeep and boat hire. Scooters and mountain bikes can also be hired locally ask in our office for details.
Local history and culture
Our office in Lakka can give you details of special Greek evenings, where you can learn something of the culture of the island. You can also join in on some guided walks.
Walking and exploring
Our offices in the UK and Lakka can provide you with detailed walking maps of the island which will help you to explore even the most remote areas.
Day trips
There
are excursions each day from Lakka, Loggos and Gaios to Anti-Paxos. These
trips take in visits to the spectacular west coast with its blue grottos
and caves. There is also a trip every morning to the little village of
Parga on the Greek mainland. Bookings for all these trips can be arranged
through our local offices.
Paxos Music Festival
This annual event takes place this year between September 2-13. The festival brings together talented young musicians from all over Europe who form an international chamber orchestra performing evening concerts, mainly centred on Loggos. Contact us for more details.
